ooc:// this was SUCH a pain to do. And Hawkie, I still can't find the colors you used. Keep posting as if nothing happened.... hehe
Hazelstar stepped into what used to be a clean and tidy NightClan camp. Instead, many rocks and tooth-stones lay broken on the ground, and many NightClan cats lie in the shadows with large, frightened eyes.
She sighed. The mysterious shaking was over, but not the problem all together.
Hazelstar gathered some warriors and told them to clean up the camp- she was lucky that the cave hadn't collapsed alltogether. She looked up, and stared at nothing in particular. I have to go to the Sunpool soon...maybe StarClan will show me answers. Hazelstar dashed off to find Tearpool and her apprentice, Cricketpaw.
Whisperwind stared at the camp with large eyes, then quietly slunk into a corner, where he watched. His stomach grumbled, and he silently padded over to Hazelstar. "Perhaps we can go on a hunting patrol...?" He asked, 'we' refering to him and a couple clan members. "The clan still needs to be fed..."
Arrowpaw was undergoing a bit of shock. An aftershock of the gathering, his eyes were wide and for once he was completely silent as he stared around the camp. What on earth had happened, why had it happened? StarClan. He shook his head angrily; he wouldn't allow himself to think like that. He believed in StarClan but had no faith in it anymore. Why? Because they had allowed for his sister to die, for this to happen, for his mother to die, for everything wrong in his life to happen.
"Hey, you're back," Lionpride called, stepping out from behind a tooth-stone with a strangely casual air, as if the earth shook every day. "So, how was the Gathering, why was the earth shaking, and I'm bored."
Of course, Lionpride was probably just as shaken as the next cat, but he was quite determined not to show it.
Plus, the last time he'd said he was bored, something very interesting had happened. Namely, a series of events that led to Dampleaf becoming Damppaw.
Hazelstar nodded at Whisperwind. "A hunting patrol is needed, but mind you that the prey will be very hard to cautch- they've all returned to their hiding places due to the earthquake."
The clan did need food, nevertheless, so she moved her tail in a signal to find other hunters. "I'll leave you in charge of the patrol," Hazelstar said to Whisperwind before padding off.
She continued to search for Cricketpaw and Tearpool.
Halfear stared into space, walking past the fresh-kill pile. Though he always hungry, he had lost his appetite. What are the Clans to you, StarClan? He angrily pushed past crowds of confused cats. He ran. He just ran. In circles and circles, as if he could burn away his deep, seething hatred with the powerful thrusting of his body against air. Finally, he collapsed. What's it worth, being alive now, anyways? We're all going to Place of No Stars! He slapped himself. Halfear, you idiot! What have you been wasting your life away for years? He let out a mournful yowl, muzzle still smarting from the hit.
Damppaw stepped lightly on her paws as she entered the ruined Nightclan camp, her eyes wide with shock. The more she looked around, the more scared she was, and as she decided to give it up as a bad job, she whisked around to her new den only to find it completely caved in. Hatred and anger rose up as she remembered why she was sleeping in the apprentice den, but only for a moment. "I will work hard to restore the clan!!" She wailed, her voice full of despair. Her cry carried across the destroyed camp, and all the cats turned around to look at her, amazed. The one who could care less about the rest of theclan, promising something so deep? Damppaw did not look around though, only continued staring at the ruined den with tears in her eyes, for she was amazed herself.
Halfear looked at Damppaw strangely. "That's a great idea!" he suddenly shouted. "We can be 'I-will-work-hard-to-restore-the-Clan buddies!"
Songpaw padded into camp with Cricketpaw trailing along behind her, gray eyes focused as they flickered intently between her Clanmates. No one seemed seriously injured, which was a good think. Spotting Hazelstar, Songpaw veered toward her, silent Cricketpaw in tow.
"Hazelstar, I need everyone to check in with me, just so I can make sure they're alright." Glancing over to her den, Songpaw bit back her sigh, "And I'll need some other apprentices to help me out. My den's a wreck, herbs are everywhere. Do you think we can spare anyone? I just heard about the hunting patrol, so.." Songpaw's usually demur voice was filled with an authority that didn't question Hazelstar, but certainly suggested it was confident in what she was doing. StarClan had blessed her with the gift of herbs - and a medicine cat was highly viewed in a Clan anyway. Besides, Songpaw trusted Hazelstar and hoped Hazelstar trusted her too.
Meanwhile, Cricketpaw's silence was broken as she padded up to stand beside Songpaw, strangely aware Hazelstar was searching for her. In Cricketpaw's eyes, anyone could tell she was badly shaken - especially after risking her life to drag another cat out of churning waters.. Death by water. A cat's worst fear.. However, behind the fear that glazed her jaded green eyes layed a glimmer of life, of hope.
No matter what, Cricketpaw vowed mentally, she would help her Clan survive this tragedy.
Whisperwind bowed to Hazelstar, feeling deeply honered. He began to gather warriors, and smiled when he heard Damppaw. He padded over to her with kind eyes. "Would you like to come on a hunting patrol with us, Damppaw?" He asked. "You can help the clan by feeding them, mind you. Here, gather as many cats as you can. We'll need more cats than usual." The tom padded away, telling himself that he should ask Hazelstar if he could also apprentice Damppaw. It would be good for Arrowpaw if he had someone to train with.
"Eh? Whadda bout me?" Halfear protested. "Me and Dampdampehlee are now officially I-will-work-hard-to-restore-the-clan buddies! If you take her you have to take me, too!" Halfear glanced around. "Riiight, Dampleaf?"
Tearpool limped into camp his front leg hung with defeat and his long "well manicured" claws either dragged along or were torn away. Fear over took Tearpool during the earthquake and he gripped the ground so tightly that he probably did more damage than if he were to have stayed calm. His eyes looked weary and though his expression tried to display otherwise it could been easily seen as a false.
Hazelstar nodded to Songpaw. Seeing that all her clan was now cluttered together, she didn't think that she needed to call a clan meeting.
"Songpaw wishes to see everyone to make surer there ok," she said. With a heavy sigh, she continued. "I am also going to be journeying to the Sunpool to see if StarClan has anything to share with me." She didn't like leaving her clan abandoned at a time like this, but she had no choice. She needed answers.
Hazelstar noticed her deputy and bounded over with an eager leap. "Tearpool, you're coming with me." She looked around camp one last time for her apprentice.
Songpaw nodded gratefully, before looking around at all her Clanmates. Such sorrow.. such loss.. such pain. Eyes glazed over with the intuitive emotions StarClan blessed her with, Songpaw let out a sigh - could she really do this? - before padding over toward her den.
"Alright, everyone.. Any serious wounds come first, but I want to check you all.. can anyone lend me a paw? I'll need some help sorting out my herbs. Over here, guys. Over here.." Songpaw's soft voice rose, keeping all of its usual delicateness in tact. When her eyes befell the inside of her den, she inwardly groaned.
Oh, StarClan.. what is going on?
Hopefully Hazelstar would get some answers.. until Songpaw dreamed again, or saw a sign, she was as left out as her Clanmates. A thought, that in all honesty, frightened her.
Spotting Hazelstar, Cricketpaw bounded over to her mentor and left Songpaw to her duties. Fur still bristling and muscles a bit coiled, Cricketpaw pulled herself to a stop and dipped her head to Tearpool and Hazelstar in respect. "You were looking for me?" Cricketpaw mewed to Hazelstar, voice wavering slightly. Whatever was going on.. Cricketpaw needed to be stablized. Hazelstar and Songpaw dulled her anxiety most times, just being able to breath in their scent and know they were there calmed the younger she-cat.
"What about me?" Lionpride demanded, aggravated. He'd suddenly more-or-less materialized in front of Whisperwind, essentially blocking the tom's way.
Well, tact had never been in Lionpride's arsenal.
Whisperwind was a bit startled, but smiled. "Sure you can come, Lionpride. I think that's enough cats for hunting. We can do a quick patrol while we're at it. Lionpride, may you please gather everyone at the entrance, please?" Whisperwind asked, his voice soft like as always.
Tearpool's jade pools glittered in the gloom. Hazelstar bounded over to him her leaps graceful and well practiced. Her creamy pelt laughed as the breeze rustled through and the charcoal specks pranced off in the oncoming eve. Words like lovely, gorgeous, and intriguing bolted through his head.
Suddenly his face flushed under his handsome mask he was thinking about his leader like a lover would. What next would he be having visions of the medicine cats besides, she was quite some moons older. Scorning himself he looked away. This could not be true he could not feel for his leader in this way but the more he pushed his thoughts away the more determined they became

Relieved Tearpool became when the apprentice waltzed over. This apprentice would take his mind off his little 'drama'. Listening intently to the apprentice he spoke after her saying, "I'll accompany you two to the Moon Pool" His melodic voice tumbled out of his mouth like his muscled shoulders rolled with each stride.
Arrowpaw's gaze shifted to the leader, of course they were going to the Moonpool, to consult StarClan. He snorted sceptically under his breath. Yes, his scornful side had returned, and as per usual, he was scornful of StarClan. He turned angrily away from the company wishing to go to the Moonpool and headed towards Lionpride. "I'm going on the patrol as well," he mewed stubbornly. A patrol was a more realist than believeing in warrior spirits, to him.
Maybe it was just because he had never seen StarClan before.
Songpaw couldn't keep herself from sighing as she watched many of her Clanmates leave without paying any attention to her. Hazelstar, Tearpool and Cricketpaw were okay - they were going to the Moonpool, and Songpaw had already gave them an all clear. The others? The young she-cat's eyes narrowed in worry and self-doubt.
Of course they wouldn't listen to her - she was only an apprentice, just as little to them as the ground they so uncaringly trodded upon day after day.
Tail curling, Songpaw turned briskly on her paws and dissapeared into her den. The strange quaking had wrecked the back half of her den, the herbs all in disarray on the ground. Nimbly walking around them, Songpaw tried to figure out the worst of things before starting to sort through the herbs. "Tansy, marigold, poppy seeds.. mint, juniper berries, yarrow.." Songpaw's soft voice could be heard murmuring to herself in the confides of her shattered sanctuary, placing the remaining of the herbs into different piles.
StarClan.. The Clans need hope.. The cats need a new light.. Oh, mother.. I need hope.
---
"Hmm? Oh, all right. Arrowpaw, you still need to go apologize to Songpaw. Go ask her if she wants to come with us and gather some herbs will you're at it. Remember: if you don't apologize, you'll be doing the least favored jobs," said Whisperwind to his apprentice. He, unlike the others, didn't really lose faith in Starclan. Like everyone else, he believed in Starclan. He trusted Starclan. And he knew, sort of, that Starclan couldn't control everything, certainly not the very nature of the world. If they did, there wouldn't be any Two-legs, there wouldn't be foxes, badgers, and other dangerous things.
---
"Fine," the apprentice muttered irritably, he felt shivers run down his spine. The Medicine Cat den. The place where his sister's body was last placed before she was buried, the place where is mother's body was last placed before she was buried. The place where Sparrowpaw visited so much when she was a kit, and the place where he would usualy spend time with her. He padded into it, beads of sweat running down his face. He could almost see his sister's ghostly outline. He shook his head wildly, trying to knock sense back into him. He jumped at the movement; but realised it was only Songpaw. What is she doing? He noticed that the earthquake must of hit pretty hard.
"Um," he broke the silence, "Songpaw? I've come to apologise about what I said before. So...I'm sorry," he mewed, he wanted to get out of the den as quickly as possible. "The others, Whisperwind, wanted to know if you wanted to come on the patrol to look for herbs."
---
Too absorbed in what she was doing to notice Arrowpaw's presence, Songpaw leaped a little at the sound of his voice, spinning around. In the darkness, crouched fearfully near the ground with her eyes looking up at him, Songpaw looked just like a kit. Vunerable. Small.. Weak. When he began to apologize, however, Songpaw slowly rose, paws carrying her toward him even though she was sure she didn't really want to go. Despite the situation, and despite her feelings, Songpaw's trained eyes raked along Arrowpaw's tense muscles. He was coiled tighter than a rattler, she realized before looking him in the eyes. Poor thing.. it's not the earthquake, and it's not me.. I wonder.. No. Stopping herself, Songpaw nodded with her pale eyes shut.
"It's okay. I forgive you, you didn't really need to apologize, but thanks.. And, that sounds nice. Thanks, again." Giving the tom a reassuring lick on his ear (in a completely friend-only way people. -_-; Songpaw's delicate tail flicked a little when she glanced back to the scattered piles of herbs around her. Mentally listing off what she needed, she made a reminder to herself to ask if Whisperwind could possibly go along one of the borders for some more cobwebs before turning back to Arrowpaw. "Shall we?" She murmured, voice almost as soft as Whisperwind's.
It was only when she followed him did she remember Sparrowpaw.
Oh, Arrowpaw..
---
Whisperwind watched as those who were coming with him gathered at the entrance and motioned with his tail to follow him. They would hunt at the open forest. There should be enough prey there.
